Aligning Employees with Company Goals

Engagement. Purpose. Alignment. These buzzwords are synonymous with the business world, but for good reason. A company whose employees are engaged, aligned and working with purpose makes for more satisfied customers, excited shareholders and greater profits.

For a business to truly exceed expectations, however, every employee needs to be aligned perfectly with the company goals. The team needs to move together. With companies introducing remote and hybrid work environments, this is now trickier than ever.

Here are a couple ways in which you can ensure your remote employees are aligned perfectly with your company goals.

Modify your communication channels

Every employee processes information in different ways. Therefore, it is important to keep reiterating your message through diverse channels. This constant repetition coupled with varying methods of delivery, will ensure that all employees are able to operate on the same wavelength. Sometimes you have to hammer home the point to make sure it sticks.

Invest in Intranet

We at Beem look at a company or enterprise’s intranet as a virtual home base for remote employees. Make it fun, exciting and engaging. This should be a place where employees want to interact with their colleagues, do work but also have fun. They shouldn’t be there because they have to be there but more so because they want to be there. This should be their home base to log into whenever they get the chance. With 16% of Gen Z and Millennials quitting their jobs due to inadequate tech, now is as good a time as ever to get ahead with Intranet.

Always Refer Back to The Goals

Be clear on what you want to achieve from the outset. Then, always relate back to how the day-to-day work and projects relate back to said goals. Remote teams have a tendency to shoot off on tangents as they don’t always have the consistent feedback loops available in a communal office. The goals should often be brought up in team meetings and internal communications. Let your team know why they are doing what they are doing. Keep them focused on the mission at hand as well as the tasks that make up the mission.

Take a Top-Down Approach

Everything should start with the CEO. The CEO should buy into the goals, own them and consistently communicate them down the company hierarchy. Employees tend to mould themselves to the values portrayed by their CEO. What is especially important here is setting things up so the CEO has a means to communicate their goals, mindset and competency to the employees on a regular basis. Everything starts with the CEO and flows downstream from there.

Give Employees a Voice

Employees need an outlet to give feedback, opinions and ideas on work environments. This is especially important for remote teams. Whether it’s through forums, leadership chats or questionnaires, feedback from employees is vital to ensure your work environment is optimised for performance. It also uplifts morale within a team when they feel that their opinions are listened to. Highly engaged employers experience a 25 to 59% decrease in turnover and 41% lower absentee rates.

Communicate Your Purpose During Onboarding

The onboarding process is a vital time for any employee. The experience they gain during this process sets the tone for the remainder of their employment with the company. Hence, not only is it important to hire people who fit your corporate culture, it is also important to ensure that once hired they are led down a path that integrates them with the company mission.

The world of work is constantly changing and with that comes room for exceptional innovation. Join us at Beem at the forefront of this new and exciting space!
